Dredd isn't an origin story kind of comic book film. At the start of the movie, it gives you the information you need to know about the world, and then it thrusts you in. In this world, Dredd is already an infamous Judge, and we see him dispensing law and justice from the start of the film. When he returns to HQ, the head Judge requests his presence and introduces him to Anderson - a young psychic who the head Judge believes will be useful as a Judge. Dredd is to take her out in the field and assess her.

Tne of the massive blocks in Mega-City One that houses over 75,000 people and has a reputation for high crime and high unemployment. Here, things get a little more complicated for the Judges after they perform a drug bust. Anderson reads the minds of one of the criminals and discovers that he was involved in the murders. When they attempt to leave the block, they are stopped by Ma-Ma, who shuts down the whole place and preventing anyone from leaving or entering. Ma-Ma runs the Ma-Ma Clan - a gang that controls all of Peach Trees and is also producing the new drug known as Slo-Mo. She knows if they take people in for questioning that her drug production will be uncovered he two end up investigating a triple murder in Peach Trees, oand she'll have more trouble on her hands. So she traps the two Judges in her block and makes an announcement to everyone:

"Peach Trees, this is Ma-Ma. Somewhere in this block are two Judges. I want them dead. Until I get what I want the block is locked down. All clan, every level, hunt the Judges down. Everyone else, clear the corridors and stay the fuck out of our way until the shooting stops. If I hear of anyone helping the Judges, I will kill them and the next generation of their families. As for the Judges... sit tight, or run. It makes no difference, you're mine."

What follows is a great action film, one that I really recommend. Dredd is very well made and well acted, and has an incredible style that makes it a pleasure to watch!
